My favorite Christmas childhood memory was on Christmas Eve when my family sat by the lit tree and someone read the Christmas story from Luke 2. We actually swelled with pride around verse 8 when the Shepherds saw the sky filled with angels. Our family name is Shepherd, spelled the same way as in the Bible, and that gave us even more connection to the story.
Then with our own children, my favorite memory was initiated by my husband. He hung a "Happy Birthday" banner prominently in our home every year. It was surprising how many people would ask whose birthday it was when they walked in. So then we started inviting the neighbors for a birthday party for Jesus. My best attempts at the birthday cake emphasizes that God wants our availability, not necessarily our abilities. My talents aren't culinary, but at least the cake sported a few flowers!
Now my children are creating their own Christmas memories with their children. How fun it is to see them lead out as parents and still emphasize that "Christmas" begins with "Christ"!
May your Christmas bring you the Peace, Joy, Love, and Hope that Christ brings.
All of us at Tricia Barksdale Designs wish you a very Merry Christmas!
